This afternoon we visited St. Pierre, a charming French island positioned just 12 miles from Newfoundland. We had natural history hikes and had time for exploring the colorful town independently. At the Heritage Museum we saw exhibits about island life, dory fishing, and liquor smuggling during Prohibition. The waterfront was vibrant, with commercial fishing boats, a few rugged sailboats, many small motorboats, and traditional dories.
