Stromness & Grytviken Whaling Stations, 3/18/2018, National Geographic Explorer
- Aboard the National Geographic Explorer
- Antarctica
There are signs of South Georgia’s whaling history at many sites around this remote, polar island. Stromness and Grytviken whaling stations are two of the most visited and offer an opportunity for modern day visitors to bear witness to a level of slaughter that hopefully will never be repeated. Even the darkest of histories deserve some attention and these two sites, by way of their preservation, serve as a reminder of the importance of sustainable resource management.
