Today has been another nice day as we make our way West down the Snake River. We stopped at the Palouse River, and rode our expedition boats up the shallow channel, admiring all the wildlife and dramatic scenery.
We followed with a tour up out of the canyon, across the golden plateau, and around to the beautiful Palouse Falls. This place is very photogenic, as it gives us a great perspective looking out at the 200-foot-tall waterfall. This area is a state park, and in fact, Palouse Falls is the official waterfall of Washington.
After a morning of beautiful scenery, it’s time to enjoy lunch out on the Sun Deck of the National Geographic Sea Bird. Our galley has prepared another culinary masterpiece, and we’ll enjoy this delicious meal while admiring the rolling hills, the blue sky, and the occasional salmon jumping across the glassy reflection.
In the afternoon, we will be seeing the system of dams and locks close-up as we pass through Lower Monumental Dam. Today it is our first passage, so it is very exciting. By the end of the trip, once we’re salty with experience, it will just be another dam lock.
