As guests awoke to another spectacular Polynesian sunrise, they prepared for a day of expedition travel. Unfortunately our plans to sail to Fakarava were scuppered by the weather. Arrangements were adjusted and National Geographic Orion headed to the coral atoll of Toau instead. Toau is located close to Fakirava and has never been visited by the ships before. The orientation of the pass meant there would be better visibility and less movement in the water. Land options are few and far between, but the water is rich in coral and fish life and offers spectacular snorkeling. Much to the relief of our pilot, who recommended the spot, guests were thrilled with the day’s activities.
