The Galapagos Islands are well known for the giant tortoises that live here. These reptiles inhabit several islands, and Santa Cruz Island has two species of giant tortoises. We went to the Fausto Llerena Giant Tortoises Breeding Center and saw several adults and juveniles. Later this morning, we went to a local farm, and had a great time learning about the local production of coffee and alcohol.
This afternoon, we went looking for wild giant tortoises in the highlands around a local farm. The large number of tortoises, as well as the beauty of this area, marveled us! The bright green pastures covered the surrounding hills all the way down to the coast.
