Today National Geographic Endeavour II arrived at Academy Bay on the southern end of Santa Cruz Island. We stayed on Santa Cruz Island for most of the day. For the first half of the morning, we went to the Giant Tortoise Breeding Center, and for the second half of the day we made a brief stop at a local farm. This was a great opportunity to observe how coffee and alcohol are processed in an artisanal way.
After lunch, we went to El Chato 2, a protected area where we looked for Galapagos giant tortoises in their natural environment. We had the chance to explore a lava tunnel and learn more about the geology of the Galapagos Islands.
