Today we started our activities before breakfast along the shore of the Ucayali River. We are reaching the furthest points of the Pacaya Samiria Reserve as we make progress navigating upstream we find new and interesting life forms. This morning we spotted several types of parrots and macaws still perching on the trees they spent the night. The most the most wanted bird in this region is the blue and yellow macaw that nests on dead palm trees. It took some minutes of exploration to find them perching on a large tree. They are very noisy!
Later on after lunch we explored the shore of the Ucayali River. In this season the river is low and there are beautiful beaches with nice white and soft sand. The beaches are god for bird watching and there is a large number of birds as well as parakeets. Here, we had the opportunity to go swimming and we also had some beers at the beach!
At 1645 we headed out again this time it was the moment to explore nature in two ways. Half of the outing was at daytime and the other half was at night in order to see the nocturnal creatures of this vast Amazon Basin. In the day we found many types of raptors, egrets, flycatchers and macaws! In the nighttime we encountered bats, night hawks, and caimans!
