The snow began falling last evening and was ongoing as our day got underway. With National Geographic Endurance securely nosed into the sea ice and eight inches of fresh fluffy powder, we spent the morning exploring the ice by cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Lines of orange parka-clad adventurers traversed this magical landscape to find Weddell and Ross seals, view icebergs, and experience a new aspect of Antarctica’s character.
Despite a brisk, cold wind blowing off the glacier, all enjoyed a continental landing and gentoo colony this afternoon. We delighted in the bustle of penguin traffic as well as their interactions and antics for a final time. From the high overlook, Neko Harbor’s breathtaking scenery stretched before us, a fitting culmination to our incredible voyage along the Antarctic Peninsula.
