This morning, National Geographic Sea Lion pulled into our cloud-covered port, Wrangell, and dropped anchor just offshore. After a short Zodiac trip to the dock, we split up to explore one of the oldest towns in Alaska.
Some of us hopped on a jet boat and rode up the Stikine River. Here, we saw bears, mountain goats and floating ice sculptures. Others got to hike on the local Mt. Dewey Trail or Petroglyph Beach. On the Mt. Dewey Trail we hiked to the top for an incredible view of the town, including eagles flying overhead. For a more cultural experience, some of us visited Chief Shakes Longhouse, a replica of a traditional Tlingit Longhouse.
After our day of exploration, we rode our Zodiacs back to our boat to begin our journey for Misty Fjord in the morning.
