Today was the first full day of our expedition in the Pacaya-Samiria Reserve, and it was filled with adventure from sunrise to sunset. Delfin II navigated to Yanaquillo Creek where we disembarked before breakfast and hopped aboard skiffs to explore this black-water tributary of the Marañón River. We were greeted by several black-collared hawks and playful pink river dolphins.

After a delicious breakfast, our ship repositioned at Amazonas Natural Park, and we had a dry landing to explore the forest. We learned about the intricate relationships between trees and fungi, and we observed the various creatures that call the forest floor home.

In the afternoon, we sailed to the Pucate River where kayaking was offered followed by a refreshing swim in the black waters. Shortly after, we explored the Yanayacu River, a tributary of the Pucate River where we spotted squirrel monkeys, three-toed sloths, and more pink river dolphins. It was truly a day to remember!
