Just as almost every morning, we had the choice of leaving the ship at dawn to explore the tributaries of the Amazon River by skiff. And just as every morning, 99% of us took it. Indeed the ideal time to explore. This morning was particularly beautiful! Clear blue sky, the golden hues of the sun just peaking over the forest, and the river was covered with a thick layer of mist… Just gorgeous!

Soon we saw blue and yellow macaws happily and noisily greeting the new day, and many other species of  birds flying over our heads in small flocks, flying in V-shape formations to the areas in which they feed.

A little later, we got also the chance to explore the rainforest by foot. After landing from our skiffs to shore, we climbed up the river-bank by way of a staircase cut out of the dirt literally a few minutes before, by our hard working crew. As we started to walk, led by our expert naturalists, we found the air full of many sounds of hungry active birds, looking for a meal, while at the same time trying to avoid becoming a meal.

Truly an incredibly high diversity of species here in the tropics!
