Today we had our first walk in the Amazon Rainforest. We first visited an area near the populated side of the river where a small high ground lake is found. We admired the giant lily pads and the ecosystem around it. Afterwards, we explored the river’s tributary and then went deep into the forest with our skiffs, finding narrow creeks in our search for wildlife. We saw many squirrel monkey troops, as well as local fishermen.

In the afternoon, we visited a beautiful tributary of the Ucayali River called Iricahua. This area was flooded but still shallow. We moved through the vegetation slowly and looked for colorful birds. A big troop of squirrel monkeys showed up carrying babies on their backs. The sounds of the forest were intense, and the sun coming down made this a relaxing and mesmerizing outing.
