Our Amazon exploration has a different style each day aboard Delfin II, and today we experienced part of the region’s wonders by visiting two delightful places. The first chapter of the adventure was found at Zapote River. The best way to begin our exploration was with a comfortable pre-breakfast skiff ride up the stream in order to witness all the fauna that is found up the river. Right at the beginning, the presence of pink river dolphins surprised us as they were found in the mouth of the stream. Farther into the river, the presence of the yellow-crowned brush-tail rat was something unique to see in a trunk hole. The splendor of the place was displayed in some of the birds’ callings like tinamou, kiskadee, oropendolas, and yellow-rumped cacique.

Once back on board Delfin II, we enjoyed our delightful breakfast and prepared our gear ready for the next chapter of the adventure. The skiff ride after breakfast was perfect for a lot of photography moments. From the top of the trees, monk-saki monkeys got our attention as they were found feeding on some of the fruits.  Farther upriver, squirrel monkeys entertained us by jumping from one branch to the other. The symphony of colors on display in the Zapote River was awe-inspiring. Once back aboard Delfin II, it was time to sail to our next destination.

Exploring in the afternoon was superb in Supay Caño. A skiff ride was the best way to begin the adventure. At the beginning of exploration, one of the biggest surprises was definitely the presence of great egrets along the shoreline. Farther up the stream, the calling of different birds had the feel of a natural sanctuary. At the end of the expedition, we sensed what the Amazon rain forest is all about as we had a heavy rainy moment inside the forest. Our experience couldn’t have gotten better in the Amazon living paradise.
