On a recent expedition to Antarctica aboard National Geographic Explorer, polar historian Gerard Baker explored Snow Hill Hut, one of the few huts on the continent that pre-dates World War I. In 1902, a Swedish Antarctic expedition brought the hut to Snow Hill Island planning to overwinter there and explore in the spring, but when their ship sank, they ended up staying until they were rescued two years later.
