Dubrovnik, Mostar, Trogir and Split Pre-Voyage Extension
Extraordinary experiences in a beautiful land with rich history
Begin in the great Old Towns of Split and Trogir, whose cobblestones, ancient buildings and narrow lanes combine the richness of the past with the vibrancy of the present. Then see historic Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where you’ll visit the beautiful, renowned Old Bridge, whose rebuilding has come to symbolize the rebirth of the Balkan States. End your experience with a walk through the marbled paved streets of medieval Dubrovnik, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Day 1 - Split, Croatia
Arrive in Split, Croatia. Transfer to the Hotel Park and enjoy the balance of the day at your leisure from this well-located property.
Day 2 - Split
The morning is devoted to the archaeological highlights of Salona, which was capital of the Roman province of Dalmatia and the likely birthplace of the emperor Diocletian. In the afternoon, we explore Split, a UNESCO Site, seeing Diocletian’s Palace, which is more a small city than a single palace. It bustles with archaeological wonders from Classical Rome through the Byzantine and Venetian periods, and maintains a lively pulse of shops and street merchants today. Dinner is at leisure. (B,L)
Day 3 - Dalmatian Coast and Trogir & Split
A morning drive takes us along the Dalmatian coastline. We arrive in medieval Trogir, a small island town also designated a UNESCO Site, whose main square, Cathedral, streets and alleyways invite exploration. We have a typical Dalmatian lunch at a local restaurant. We then drive to historic Mostar, in Bosnia & Herzegovina. This beautiful town spans the Neretva River and is famed for its Old Bridge. This spectacularly graceful bridge stood between 1556 and 1993, when it was destroyed during the Yugoslav civil war. It has now been lovingly rebuilt, using stone from the original quarries, and the bridge and the surrounding Old Town are also a UNESCO World Heritage site. We have dinner in a local restaurant, and stay in the Hotel Mostar or Hotel Mepas. (B,L,D)
Day 4 - Mostar/Dubrovnik
We take a morning walking tour of historic Mostar, and have additional free time to explore on our own. After lunch, we drive along the Dalmatian Coast to historic Dubrovnik. When we arrive, we take a cable car ride to the top of Srdj Hill, for a classic panoramic view over the Old City of Dubrovnik and the Adriatic, from some 1,300 feet above. We continue to our hotel, the Hotel Excelsior, and check in. The evening is free, and you may wish to choose among Dubrovnik’s fine restaurants. (B,L)
Day 5 - Dubrovnik/Embark Sea Cloud
Dubrovnik, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is regarded as the best‐preserved medieval town in the world. On a walking tour this morning, stroll marble paved streets to the 15th‐century Rector’s Palace and the Franciscan Monastery, then walk the ramparts that circle the town. We’ll continue our explorations in the afternoon, before transferring to Sea Cloud to begin our voyage. (B,L)
