Eclipse Pre-Extension

On August 12th, 2026, the Snæfellsnes Peninsula will be bathed in the moon’s shadow during one of the solar system’s most astonishing phenomena: a total solar eclipse. Enjoy an exclusive experience with National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions Field Staff on the peninsula at a private hotel to prepare for and capture one of the most spectacular happenings on the planet.
Day 1 - Reykjavík

Arrive today in the Arctic capital of Reykjavík and enjoy a group lunch before driving out to the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, the setting of the total solar eclipse. Arrive in the late afternoon, check into your seaside hotel, and attend an arrival dinner with fellow travelers.

Day 2-3 - Snæfellsnes

After a morning at leisure, transfer out to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula with lunch on the way. Jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean, the peninsula is your base for the next three days as you prepare for the solar eclipse. Enjoy the geologic wonders of the landscape formed by the volcanic belt located down the middle of the peninsula.

Explore the Peninsula’s variety of landscapes, such as black sand beaches and volcanic hillsides. Attend photo workshops and walks to prepare yourself for the approaching eclipse.

At 4:45 p.m., the total solar eclipse will be witnessed on the peninsula (weather permitting) for about 2 hours, with totality close to 2 minutes. Witness and capture one of the solar system's most spectacular displays.

Day 4 - Reykjavík

This morning, transfer back to Reykjavík, eating lunch on the way. Check into your included hotel. Dinner is on your own tonight as you enjoy the city at your own pace.

Day 5-7 - Reykjavík

For the next three days, use your city center hotel as your home base to explore and enjoy the multitude of options in and around this vibrant capital city. Join an optional exclusive group activity, or spend the days at your own pace, as you prepare for your upcoming voyage. As your fellow travelers arrive for the voyage, make your final preparations for your expedition into Northeast Greenland National Park. On your final afternoon, embark the National Geographic Endurance.
