Explore Lisbon, enchanting Sintra, and Portugal’s scenic wine country
Lisbon’s sweeping river views, lavishly ornamented churches and monuments, and hilltop castles never fail to enchant. Walk winding medieval streets to photograph colorful azulejos, the colorful stone tiles that decorate the city. Stand where great explorers like Ferdinand Magellan and Vasco de Gama launched their historic expeditions, and visit Sintra’s stunning Pena and Queluz palaces. You will also experience the region’s distinctive cuisine, wine, and music during a dinner at a typical Fado restaurant and a wine tasting in the beautiful Alentejo region.
Day 1 - Lisbon, Portugal

Arrive in Lisbon this morning and check into the Altis Grand Hotel (or similar). Begin your exploration of this fascinating city on a walking tour. See the city’s stunning 18th-century downtown area, the Baixa District. Stroll Figueira Square, presided over by St. George’s Castle, a Moorish fortress that dates to the sixth century. Then see the ornate arched façade of the 19th-century Rossio train station. Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant this evening. (L,D)

Day 2 - Lisbon

This morning, see the city by tuk tuk before enjoying lunch at a riverside restaurant. Learn about the golden age of Portuguese exploration in the historic Belém Quarter, and explore the ornate Monastery of Jerónimos. This evening, gather for dinner in a local fado restaurant and enjoy a typical Portuguese Fado dining experience. (B,L,D)

Day 3 - Sintra

This morning, we head to Sintra. Our experience here begins with a tour of the Palace of Pena, built by King Ferdinand in the 19th century. Stop for a fresh seafood lunch in the fishing village of Azenhas, where we’ll dine at a restaurant perched above the Atlantic Ocean. This afternoon, continue on to the stunning Palace of Queluz and its gardens. Explore this 18th-century French-styled former royal residence and discover its baroque architecture and ornate ballrooms, which still host state receptions today. Return to Lisbon and enjoy dinner with your fellow travellers in the city tonight. (B,L,D)

Day 4 - Alentejo Countryside / Embark

After breakfast, meet your fellow travellers and depart on a scenic drive to Portugal’s Alentejo region. We’ll spend the day at a wine estate that produces some of the country’s finest varietals. Enjoy a special tasting and see where the grapes are pressed. Lunch will be served with expertly paired wines and cheeses. Return to Lisbon this afternoon to embark our ship. (B,L)
