Norwegian Fjords Pre-Voyage Extension
Explore a legendary coastline

Kick off your journey through southern Norway’s stunning landscapes in the medieval town of Bergen, where you will learn about the rich history of this former trading center for the Hanseatic League. Spend time exploring the thundering waterfalls and snowy peaks of the two longest fjords in Norway—Sognefjord and Hardangerfjord—and kayak, canoe, and hike along breathtaking lakes. Enjoy a ride on the Flåm Railway, one of world’s most scenic train journeys, then complete your experience with an afternoon in cosmopolitan Oslo.
Day 1 - Bergen
Arrive in the city of Bergen, once a powerful trading hub of the Hanseatic League. Check in to the Hotel Norge by Scandic, or similar. After independent arrivals, meet your fellow travelers for dinner at the hotel. (D)
Day 2 - Bergen
This morning, visit the town center with its colorful fish and flower market and the Hanseatic Museum, which details the history of the Germanic merchants. Venture into St. Mary's Church and the Fantoft Stave Church, which was carefully reconstructed after a fire in the 1990s, as well as composer Edvard Grieg's home. After lunch, ride the funicular to the city's apex for an extraordinary view. Dinner is on your own. (B,L)
Day 3 - Flam Railway / Sognefjord / Ullensvang
A panoramic ride on the Flåm Railway is a must-do on any exploration of the fjordlands. Drive into the mountains and arrive at Voss. From there, embark on a train journey to Myrdal, where you’ll then change over to the Flåm Railway which ascends 2,900 feet in less than an hour with spectacular scenery.
After lunch in Flåm, continue to Gudvangen, sailing from Gudvangen through the fjords of Naeroy and both arms of the Sognefjord. Disembark and continue the drive via Stalheim Canyon, passing through the Naeroydal Valley with its breathtaking views, and then ferrying across from Bruravik to Brimness. Arrive in Loftus late evening and check in to the Hotel Ullensvang for two nights. (B,L,D)
Day 4 - Ullensvang
Set on the shores of Sorfjord, the hotel offers a day of relaxing activities. Enjoy kayaking or canoeing, go on a variety of marked hikes (there are maps available), and/or spend the day enjoying the hotel’s idyllic setting with a view of the dramatic fjord. You’ll also have the chance to visit the Hardanger Folk Museum and Ullensvang Church. (B,L,D)
Day 5 - Ullensvang / Rjukan
Oddadalen is known as the Valley of Waterfalls and will create the striking backdrop for your morning of exploration as you drive to the stave church in Roldal, one of few stave churches that sits on a stone foundation. After lunch at a local restaurant, continue on to the Hardangervidda National Park Visitors Center in Rjukan where you’ll spend the night at a picturesque mountain lodge. (B,L,D)
Day 6 - Oslo
