Information for Prospective Visiting Scientists

The Visiting Science Program operates as a “platform of opportunity” to host scientists aboard the National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions fleet. Traveling on voyages to the most remote locations on the planet, the program seeks to host research projects that can feasibly collect meaningful data within the experience provided to guests. Details of the program can be found in the Request for Proposals (RFP) advertised twice per year. It's suggested that you become familiar with National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions and the experience provided to guests before you submit.

The Arctic RFP encompasses expeditions to the northern hemisphere (approximately May-September), including Svalbard, Coastal Norway, Greenland, Iceland and Canada. This RFP is generally released in October with a proposal due date in November for the season beginning in May the following year. Future RFPs may open and close earlier to extend the time needed for proposal review, permitting, booking and logistics.

The Southern Ocean RFP encompasses expeditions to the southern hemisphere (approximately October-March), including the Antarctic Peninsula, South Georgia and the Falkland Islands. This RFP is generally released in January/February with a proposal due date in February/March for the season beginning later that same year in October. Future RFPs may open and close earlier to extend the time needed for proposal review, permitting, booking and logistics.

Below, please find the current Request for Proposals (RFP) and proposal submission form for the Southern Ocean 2025-26 season. If you wish to be included on the mailing list for future RFP announcements, please send a request to science@expeditions.com.
