Rachel Crane

From the kaleidoscopic coral reefs of the tropics to the swaying kelp forests of temperate seas, Rachel Crane is dedicated to exploring and sharing the ocean’s wonders. With expertise as a Marine Ecologist, PADI Master Scuba Instructor, and USCG 100-ton Captain, she combines adventure, science, and storytelling to foster deeper connections with marine ecosystems.

Growing up homeschooled on an alpaca farm in upstate New York, Rachel developed a deep bond with nature that sparked a lifelong passion for the outdoors. This led her to study Ecology and Marine Biology at Unity College in Maine. Her fascination with the ocean grew through coral disease research at MOTE Marine Laboratory in Florida, before she discovered her true calling in eco-tourism and science communication.

Based in Key Largo, Florida, Rachel runs vessels for scientists restoring the Florida Keys Reef Tract and leads eco-tourism excursions to inspire love for local marine environments. As a natural mentor, she empowers young professionals by teaching boating and scuba skills, fostering confidence and career growth.

As part of the Expedition Field Staff for National Geographic and Lindblad Expeditions, Rachel guides travelers across temperate, tropical, and polar seas as a naturalist and underwater videographer. Capturing breathtaking marine environments, she shares her knowledge onboard, inspiring personal connections with nature. Through storytelling, Rachel uses her roles as a Science Communicator and Ocean Explorer to connect people with the mysteries beneath the waves, motivating them to take action in preserving and protecting our oceans.
