This time the great Amazon rainforest received us with rain! It is warm anyway and it did not stop us from going out and exploring the forest. We had ponchos on hand and we headed to the prime rainforest. Here the trees are diverse, some are short and part of the under layer; others are more than a hundred feet tall! They are called the emergent layer.
In the morning we explored the famous Amazon Natural Park which is a forest with the tallest trees of the region. To reach this place we had to wear rubber boots as the forest floor is always wet. We also had to board some small catamaran to cross a pond to finally reach our visitor site. Once here the hike started and our destination was the bridges that would take us to the canopy to admire the forest from above.
In the afternoon we boarded the skiffs for exploration of Yanayaquillo Creek. This place was outstanding! It was the best show of life as we had a swarm of winged termites flying and a flock of birds feeding on them. There were toucans, terns, bare necked fruit crows and caracaras! Later on, we spotted a couple of sloths and monkeys! The jungle after the rain was just magical with its sounds and colors.
It was an outstanding day with marvelous sightings!
