We woke this morning to clear skies and the exciting prospect of a day under sail aboard the majestic Sea Cloud. After breakfast the crew ‘hit the rig’ and soon the wind was propelling us toward tomorrow’s port in Syracuse. Historian Tom Heffernan offered a fascinating presentation, “Conscience or Death: A Roman Woman Defies the State“, which was followed by a delicious lunch on the lido deck.

In the afternoon, several guests adventured to the bow to assist with bringing in the sails. We had a special cocktail hour, with Expedition Leader John Frick presenting, “The History of the Sea Cloud.” Afterwards we were invited down below deck to visit many of the original cabins, with champagne in hand. Each room is elegant and unique. It is thrilling to imagine all the history that has taken place over the decades on this ship and the people who have spent the night under these sails.
