It’s a great feeling being at sea with the gentle motion of National Geographic Explorer plying through the waves. Not only is it relaxing but also thought provoking. It’s a time for reflection, looking back on all we’ve experienced these past two weeks. From the polar bear sightings, to the ice and wonderful weather, this expedition has been truly epic.

Today was also a great day to hear from our experts. Presentations included talks about Inuit culture, the nature of islands, whales of the Arctic, and the real threats of climate change here in the polar regions.

Meanwhile, the photographers among us—and there are many—continued to sort through the thousands of images made during the voyage. The photo opportunities have been outstanding, and the images being shared on the laptops, iPads, and iPhones are spectacular, telling the story of all the amazing experiences we’ve shared.

And even though eating is optional, the highlight today was afternoon tea. Not for what was served, but for where it was served—in the ship’s laundry and store room. Rarely do guests get to have a peek behind the scenes, so today’s invitation to enjoy cakes and hot toddies was very special and enjoyed by all.
