Today’s first outing for wildlife was at Bahia Almejas where we encountered an enormous group of double-crested cormorants heading back from foraging at the Pacific. Our local pangueros know these birds are an indicator of a good fish catch, so they appreciated the sighting as much as our guests did.
Once back aboard and just before lunch, one of our guests kindly delighted us with a nature drawing lesson in the forward lounge.
In the afternoon, we visited Puerto Magdalena, a quiet fishing village located at Isla Magdalena. We learned how they make fresh water while visiting the only desalinization plant in the area that supplies 1000 square liters of water an hour to a population of 85 inhabitants.
Afterwards, we visited a workshop of local handcrafters and concluded the excursion with an enjoyable presentation about the history and life of Mr. Jose Valenzuela “Chejo” at his family managed restaurant.
It was a great day filled with a lot of local flavor at Magdalena Bay.
