National Geographic Venture weighed anchor early this morning and went in search of marine life. We had the good fortune to cross paths with a couple of pods of common dolphins in a feeding frenzy with pelicans, gulls, terns, boobies, and even a humpback whale! The dolphins came in to surf the pressure wave created as our ship moved through the water. It was a joyous feast of sights and sounds.
For the afternoon, we cruised to Punta Islotes on the Baja California Peninsula. We had a nice time watching birds during Zodiac tours around nearby islets, and we went exploring during a beautiful beach landing. Highlights were reddish and snowy egrets, black-crowned night-herons, and American oystercatchers. Great blue herons were nesting on one of the islets.
