The National Geographic Endeavor II remained in the center of the Archipelago today and explored two small, satellite islands of Santiago: Bartolomé and Sombrero Chino.
Both are located directly off the southeast coastline of this big island, under the rain shadow, and thus receive virtually no rain. Consequently, the volcanic landscape supports scarce vegetation and offers dramatic scenery. However, the marine current that collides here brings together the conditions to sustain a diverse, abundant, and healthy marine ecosystem.
We had a diversity of activities on the program so we could take the best of our exploring day. With warm water and a bright sun, we had everything to enjoy discovering these two islands.
