Today we followed in the wake of Jean-Baptiste Charcot, the French Antarctic explorer who visited this area in the early 1900s. We woke up early for a stunning passage south through the Lemaire Channel. After breakfast, we landed on Booth Island. We visited the Adelie and gentoo penguin colonies, and we had several sightings of leopard seals on the ice and in the water. We transited through an iceberg alley from Booth Island to Petermann Island for our second shore excursion of the day. On shore, we trekked in all directions to observe penguin chicks at their finest. Many guests ventured out in Zodiacs to cruise the icy landscape.
In the evening, we were treated to a wonderful show from a family of killer whales and had great close-ups of humpback whales. To cap off the day, we headed to the lounge to dance with the crew band, The Spice Boyz!
