It is not every day that you get a chance to walk along the meeting point of two oceanic plates. Today we did just that when we landed at Sandy Bay on Macquarie Island. Upon approaching the island, we saw long-finned pilot whales. While we were ashore, a pod of killer whales cruised past us. The highlight was a colony of the endemic royal penguins, surrounded by giant Macquarie cabbage plants and tussac grass.
