The day dawned a soft pink and blue with cumulus clouds before the sun rose. We were anchored in the bay near Cayo Largo in beautiful turquoise waters. After breakfast we departed for shore to visit an international medical clinic and listened to the doctor talk about how they provide treatment to international people staying on the island. We visited a sea turtle conservation clinic, where the director talked about their program to save the eggs and baby turtles to help increase the levels of green and leatherback turtles in the ocean.  Tourists on the island help him gather the eggs after they’ve been laid in the sand, move them to a safer spot until they hatch, and then volunteers help them get to the sea safely when they hatch. Our group then split up and some went to a beautiful white sand beach to explore while others snorkeled. Ruddy turnstones scurried about on the beach looking for food, and the wind rippled through the thatch umbrellas and the palm trees under a hot sun. We gathered back together to go for a barbecue lunch on the ship before setting sail for Cienfuegos. Tonight was a full moon rising over a calm sea.
