Serendipity - The faculty of making fortunate discoveries by accident.

Our day to explore Ciutadella, walking around the historic quarters surrounded by palaces, churches, and fortresses, was going as smoothly as planned. It was a great Saturday. The market was set up very early in a chilly morning, the sun was shining, and the kids running around gave life to the beautiful medieval streets. The day warmed up and we got lost in this mix of colonial and local architecture bursting with history. Ciutadella is all about details: the baroque facade, the cute little windows, the expressive head-shaped door knockers, or even the eyes-shut face porticos carved above doors to prompt the wish not to see your “rival” neighbor family.

Everybody was out, the fish market was vibrant, the fruits and cheeses on display and the coffee houses full of the life and happiness of Menorcan’s enjoying their weekend.

Our time was up and we needed to return to where our Zodiacs would bring us to National Geographic Orion. But the great Poseidon played a trick on us and with his power lifted a great swell. Ashore we shall stay a bit longer!

The marina restaurants served us many flavored local dishes, and we got to enjoy the sunny afternoon with a great finale by Muchachito and his guitar that left us all singing and clapping to rumba flamenco music. It was a most pleasant surprise!

There is only one way to describe our day: one with serendipity.
