Genovesa is one of the living paradises of the Galapagos Islands and today we had a taste of it.  We began our expedition this morning with a wet landing at Darwin Bay beach in order to see all the wonders that the island had in store.

As soon as we landed the marvels of Genovesa were exposed. We saw so many animals that we felt as if we were in a magical world.  Male frigate birds were displaying their pouches, swallow-tailed gulls were nesting, and red footed boobies were everywhere.  Our very good friend, the Galapagos sea lions, made the perfect addition for a delightful experience.

As we came back on board the National Geographic Islander, it was time to get our gear ready in order to enjoy the deep water snorkeling around the mystery cliffs of Darwin Bay. As we entered the water the magnificence of the place was so impressive we felt as if we were inside an aquarium.  This was highlighted by sightings of scalloped hammerhead sharks swimming from one place to the other.

In the afternoon the adventure just got better by exploring the other side of the marvelous submerged caldera that is found at Genovesa Island. After a comfortable dry landing Prince Philip´s steps was waiting for us.  As soon as we arrived all the sea birds that nest in the area were singing a perfect natural melody.  Nazca boobies nesting were one of the treats that Mother Nature shared with us.

As we reached the other side of the cliff storm petrels paid us a visit and farther along the trail we witnessed the elusive short eared owl.  Today we had a variety filled experience that was the perfect example of what the Galapagos Islands has to offer.
