Española island is a box full of surprises! Every day is different and marked with the unexpected. The usual morning is dull at this time of the year, but by mid-morning a sparkling blue sky emerged!
From the ship we can see the first signs of life--sea lions crawling on the shore and seabirds looking for a meal along the shallow waters of Gardner Bay. This was our first full day in this small paradise and we were ready to explore the island.
By mid-morning we headed to the shore and some of us went snorkeling in the calm waters of Gardner Bay. It is a world full of life with curious young sea lions amid many types of colorful tropical fish. The place was a natural aquarium.
In the afternoon, after a photography talk, we landed at Punta Suarez; ready to capture the wildlife though the lens of our cameras. This island is covered in old lava rocks and sandy patches. The boulders were the resting spots of marine iguanas and Nazca boobies. The island’s vegetation is a low dry scrub, and the shore of Española is made up of impressive vertical cliffs formed by basaltic rocks.
The magnificent views are unforgettable! And it gets even better when we reached the colony of albatrosses, which is mixed up with iguanas, swallow tailed gulls, and Galápagos shearwaters.
It was an amazing day!
