Fourteen fearless adventurers opted to depart National Geographic Orion at dawn to search the depths of the jungle for the Fatu Hiva monarch. While we didn’t find the monarch, we were rewarded with a beautiful community welcome in Hanavave Bay followed by music, singing, dancing, and demonstrations of local crafts.
The afternoon included kayaking, Zodiac cruising, and an incredible hike to a waterfall. This island, these people, and these mountains make this a truly spectacular place to visit. It is safe to say we all hope to come back soon!
