Today the sunrise was spectacular on the west side of the archipelago. Our first visit was to Fernandina, one of the pristine islands of Galapagos. We walked along the trail and took photos of the marine iguanas that were all over the area; we also saw baby sea lions nursing along the shore. Many iguanas — truly thousands of them — were basking in the sun along the shore. Hawks were sitting on the bushes nearby, ready to capture the young iguanas if any opportunity came along. We also observed nesting areas of flightless cormorants and Galapagos penguins.
After the nature walk, we went into the water to find black sea turtles, marine iguanas, and so many other underwater creatures. It was amazing! In the afternoon, we went to the north of Isabela Island to explore the coastline. Fur seals, marine iguanas, and flightless cormorants were the main attractions for us — together with the impressive landscape of the tuff formations.
Back on board we had a toast for the crossing of the equatorial line; everybody was so excited and happy after such a wonderful trip!
