National Geographic Quest was greeted by spectacular views of the early morning sun illuminating snow-covered Mount Hood to our south this morning. After an early breakfast, we spent the morning at the Bonneville Fish Hatchery and hiking at Multnomah Falls. Fall can be felt in the air and seen in the yellowing leaves of the bigleaf maple. While we were out and about, the ship repositioned to Cascade Lock. Our Zodiac ride back to the ship took us under the Bridge of the Gods.
The afternoon marks the passing of our final lock of the trip, the Cascade Lock. The occasion was celebrated by the crew and guests. For me, I celebrate the moment by singing…
I was down ‘long the river, just settin’ on a rock
Lookin’ at the boats in the Bonneville Lock.
And the gate swings open and the boat sails in,
Toots her whistle, she’s gone a gin’!
