The Galapagos Islands have superb wildlife and landscapes, but they also have a rich human history. Today our guests woke up early to a cool breeze and a calm ocean and were ready to explore Floreana Island; both on land and also the surrounding sea. This island is located on the central part of the Galapagos archipelago; it is surrounded by cool nutrient-rich waters, and as a result of these conditions we can find sea bird colonies, sea lions colonies, plenty of reef fish for the snorkelers, and different types of land birds.

In the morning we explored Punta Cormorant and its sea turtles’ nesting site. These beaches are visited by the pacific green sea turtles every year for nesting. They come in large numbers from December to March and some few ones arrive at any time in the year. This is why you can find nests or tracks of sea turtles throughout the year.

Later in the morning we departed and set our course to a little islet called Champion. Here, we explored the shore from Zodiacs. This small islet is a magnet for all sorts of marine life! Throughout the Zodiac ride we had the opportunity to spot different species of sea birds, such as blue-footed boobies, Nazca boobies, brown pelicans, and tropic birds just to mention a few!

Later on we explored the same place but in a different way. It was with snorkeling gear and this time were part of the marine realm. Snorkeling is very rewarding due to the abundance of tropical fish and the different varieties that make up this complex ecosystem.

In the afternoon we visited the legendary post office barrel of Floreana. This barrel became the most important mechanism of communication on this side of the Pacific Ocean. The users of this system were the English whalers and in some few case the locals as well. Later on we enjoyed kayaking and Zodiac riding among sea lions and of course we celebrated with a drink at sunset the great experiences of the day.
