An impressive level of optimism and enthusiasm was noticeable since early this morning. Our first foray into the Amazon rainforest was an opportunity not to miss, and the fresh hours of the day really delivered. Many different birds including tanagers, oropendolas, hummingbirds, parrots, woodpeckers and several types of hawks were spotted and entered our lists. Remarkably, our first sighting of monkeys was of the not so common white-browed dusky titi monkeys, a group of three of them basking in the morning sun!
Later in the morning, some were lucky enough to have an eye level encounter with the smallest monkey in the world, the pygmy marmoset, certainly a real treat. After a lunch and siesta break to avoid the hottest hours of the day, we set off for an afternoon skiff ride to explore another tributary river.
