Magdalenafjord, near the northeast corner of Spitsbergen, Svalbard

And thus our voyage Beyond the North Cape nears its close in one of the striking fjords of Svalbard. We have experienced archaeology, exploration history, and magnificent nature. We have seen polar bears (oh, yes; we have seen polar bears!), walrus, and seals; hordes of guillemots, ivory gulls, skuas, puffins, and sea eagles. We have seen trolls turned into stone, Old Red Sandstone and Hecla Hoek. We have heard the blows of fin whales, the calls of kittiwakes and the popping of glacial ice. We have tasted Arctic sorrel, Swedish pancakes and cod fresh from the sea. We have looked into tiny Arctic flowers and marveled at glacial faces miles across. We have been to the Arctic. We have caught the Arctic Fever.
