Bartholomew and Santiago Island

We had the most wonderful day visiting Bartholomew during the morning and Santiago in the afternoon.

As we spent all our morning on Bartholomew Island we had the great opportunity to learn about the geologic origin of the archipelago and how species of plants and animals arrived, established and adapted to this harsh environment.

Our main goal in the morning was to reach the summit of the island and once at the top our prize was to look at the most famous view of the entire archipelago and we just couldn’t resist taking a picture of everyone once we had reached the pinnacle.

Our snorkeling and swimming experience was really outstanding. There were sea lions, lots of fish, and some boobies fishing in the same area. The afternoon on Santiago Island was very exciting; along the shore we found a great blue heron fishing on the tidal zone and saw feeding twice on a rather large pray.

For all of us the greatest surprise of the day was observing some whales from the shore, these whales were quite far however the spout was very large, like a column shape so we concluded these were blue whales. It has been so amazing just being able to have this gratifying day that ended with the most colorful sunset.
