Floreana Island

We moved toward the southern tip of this volcanic oceanic archipelago, and we spent the whole day in three different locations in the same island. Before breakfast we went out to follow a whalers’ tradition: the swap mailing system of the Floreana post office barrel. Here many of our guests got postcards to hand deliver somehow someday and also left their own letters to participate in this fun experiment.

Later on our Captain Juan Rueda repositioned the ship to Champion Islet, a fantastic place for water activities. We had a marvellous time exploring the rich, unique marine ecosystem of this area. Tropical fish were all over the place, but also we got to swim with friendly sea lion pups that enjoyed it as much as we did. It’s amazing to watch them moving underwater, I just wish I could swim like these pinnepeds.

The afternoon found us at Punta Cormorant where we saw some flamingos in a brackish water lagoon together with some other waders. It has been a beautiful busy day full of great sightings.
