Santa Cruz & North Seymour Islands

Today was a long day; we started very early in the morning visiting Santa Cruz Island and late in the afternoon we reached North Seymour.

What a day, what a great adventure following the same path of the Giant Tortoises for a close encounter. I still can remember how many we found as we were working hard to find the older one. Which way should we go? (our guest asked) and I said, “as far as our dreams become true, because Galápagos is a magic land which lets you go ahead of time and lets you think about the old times too.

What a dream, Land Tortoises in the wild, more than we thought. Also we walked underground into the lava tunnels where there are no animals, a very isolated place to live. The lava tunnels are a natural Geological formation that lead us to the restaurant where we got our delicious Galápagos coffee and of course our breakfast, we are not fasting in such a miraculous place as Galápagos.

We sail four hours to our next visitor’s place which is of course North Seymour. Right from the beginning we were greeted by the welcoming committee: sea lions! They were all around us, different kinds of feelings arose at that moment; surely they made a big impression - a wonderful world this is. The big male sea lion approached us trying to protect the pup, after females were barking because we got a bit close while a baby was feeding; what a maternal sense, in the middle of the rocks. Among birds our famous swallow tails gulls, the only nocturnal ones, were dancing around and making a funny noise something like screaming, asking for attention while flying up above. In the sky the skilful frigate birds, which have to steal food sometimes from other animals, have earned a bad reputation and the nick name of “pirates of the sea”. What a sad situation, but life is hard here in paradise, day by day all the animals have to find a way to find food. As Charles Darwin said, the stronger will survive.

Evolution is working day by day into this paradise.
