Bartolome and Santiago Islands

We started the day with a great walk to the summit of Bartolome Islet, from which we enjoyed the most fantastic landscape you can imagine. Later in the morning, we went to a small beautiful beach with the picturesque Pinnacle Rock looming in the background. Today the colours were really outstanding; the golden sand stood out starkly against beautiful blue sky, blue water and green vegetation behind the beach. Most of our guests very much enjoyed the water activities. The underwater world in this area can sometimes be unparalleled. Today we saw many colourful fish, Galápagos sea lions, rays, white- tip reef sharks and on top of that we also saw the Galápagos penguins, which flitted close by many of our guests as they flew through the water in search of the small fish that are their prey. The latter experience is one that they will never forget.

This afternoon we walked along the shoreline of Santiago Island. This is a great place to observe many of the animal species that live in the Galápagos Archipelago. Galápagos sea lions were very abundant, fur seals, marine iguanas, shore birds among some others were a delight to observe. It is hard to believe that there is a place where the animals are not afraid of people and all coexist in the same place.
