Floreana Island

Today was a wonderful sunny day in the charming Galápagos Islands. We woke up in the morning at the nicely calm Post Office Bay. On our way to the barrel, two Galápagos penguins surprised us, as they were swimming around the Zodiacs. Once on the beach, it was time to continue with this wonderful Galápagos tradition as we exchanged our postcards for those found inside the barrel. By the time we arrived back on board, the breakfast was waiting for us to keep us full powered in order to continue with the amazing snorkeling activity at Champion Islet.

Before the charming snorkeling experience, we took a very nice Zodiac ride around Champion to find one of the rarest birds in the world: the Charles mockingbird. As they are considered so rare, we were so lucky to see several individuals as we traveled along the coast line. The Galápagos shearwaters were flying all over as the cute blue footed boobies were right there resting at the cliff’s edge. Something that really amazed us was a young red footed booby resting among blue footed ones. It was awesome!

After the Zodiac ride, we were ready to get into the water. It was amazing to see how the fish were everywhere. There were so many fish that it was almost impossible to swim because we thought we were going to touch them. We felt as if we were part of a giant aquarium. During this charming experience, we saw hundreds of reef fish surrounding us, an enormous marbled sting ray, and several blue footed boobies plunge diving into the water trying to get some food.

In the afternoon our expedition just got better. Before a perfect wet landing at Cormorant Point, a large group of bottle nosed dolphins got our attention as we were getting inside the bay. Once on the trail, the greater flamingos inside the lagoon were just the cherry on top of the ice cream to make it worthy.

As we arrived at the other side of the point, a few sting rays were resting very close to shore as if they were welcoming us to their natural home. Finally on the way back, the sunset was so amazing that we partially saw the mythical green flash as the sun disappeared back in the horizon.

Today, we had another spectacular experience in the amazing paradise of the Galápagos Islands.
