Bartolomé and Puerto Egas

An early morning pre-breakfast outing to Bartolomé Island offered us a chance to walk up a wooden boardwalk to the island’s summit. It took us to the top of a very eroded volcano and offered a spectacular view of about nine surrounding islands.

Back on board and after breakfast we had our second morning outing and enjoyed a fabulous time snorkeling and glass bottom boating, kids played at the beach and we all had great time.

Snorkelers were happy to swim with penguins, sea lions, an octopus, sharks and a several colorful tropical fish.

The afternoon was full of excitement, once again the kids took over the black sandy beach of Puerto Egas, and snorkelers did not want to miss the last chance for snorkeling here. No one could decide which snorkeling time was best – the morning or the afternoon. The latter gave us clear waters and a black sandy bottom that enhanced the bright colors of the tropical fish and the surroundings.

Walkers enjoyed a nice stroll along the jagged shores of Puerto Egas and learned about the defense attempts of settlers this island had from Norway and Ecuador during the early 1900s.

Everyone had great fun taking pictures of the big marine iguanas, shore birds, lava lizards, yellow warblers, Galápagos hawks and more.
