Floreana Island
Today Floreana Island showed off its fascinating attractiveness. The day began with a refreshing morning when we visited Cormorant Point, where, despite the cloudy landscape, the triplet of mating sea turtles gave us a wonderful surprise on the coralline beach. On the green beach, three sea lions resting on the shore gave us the farewell. Later in the morning, after tracking a whale from the zodiacs, we were lucky to find three Charles mockingbirds on Champion Islet, which were sighted either on the ground or above on the Prickly pear cacti.
The morning completed its astonishing wonders by letting us snorkel together with the sea lions and their juveniles. The experience seemed to be the same for all of us: amazing and peaceful as we all were captivated by the way they swam and enjoyed the water by rolling around in it.
In the afternoon we went to the Post Office Bay Barrel, but first we went to the lava tunnel, where many of us could feel the water and the urge to get in. Obviously, flashlights were required.
Once at the barrel, guests enjoyed sharing the posted letters among themselves to hand deliver, as is the tradition. The almost-greenish landscape of Floreana reminded us that the weather might be changing soon as the leaves were coming out already, thanks to the rainy season that is almost here.
The last activity we did it was a Zodiac ride, where we witnessed the different ecosystems that Galápagos has as we went to the mangroves on the tiny islets; here was a colony of sea lions laying over pahoe-hoe lava beds surrounded by mangroves and ornamented by cacti.
