Floreana Island
It was early in the morning when we decided to start another amazing adventure in the remote Island of Floreana. We have to admit that our journey began with a wonderful display of light, our sunrise was bright orange and in the distance we saw many Galapagos shearwaters in a feeding frenzy. The air warmed up and so did we. Just minutes before the landing, some small penguins appeared close to the beach, this was a perfect moment as we saw the enthusiasm from our guests taking great pictures.
Then we went back home to National Geographic Endeavour for a quick breakfast. After the short visit in Punta Cormorant our Captain, Fausto Hinojosa, moved the ship to Champion Islet. This was the perfect moment for a good Zodiac ride in search of the elusive Floreana mockingbird. “I see it” one of our guests said! Our naturalists found many red billed tropicbirds in display as well. We watched them as they tried landing along the cliffs several times.
Snorkeling was amazing, great water temperatures and several species to see along the submarine cliff with many baby sea lions, king angelfishes, Peruvian grunts and some others.
Cindy’s afternoon special departure included our favorite lava tunnel behind the Post Office Bay barrel, where we shared postcards and new messages for future travelers.
Then we moved on to our next fun experience. Everyone’s adrenaline increased with excitement, during our descent to the lava tunnel. It was dark, fresh and as soon as the flashlights were on, our pictures came out great. We spend most of the time playing with special effects. It was a spectacular moment.
