Bartolomé & Santiago Islands

It is only our first full day and we have already experienced so much! Our new friends have enthusiastically attended our first early morning outing to conquer the top of Bartolomé Island. It was early and we had to climb over three hundred steps to get there, but it was worth it! Once back on board and after a well deserved breakfast, we got our snorkeling gear and headed to the beach. It did not take long for us to get used to the incredible marine ecosystem of the Galápagos, as the coastline of Bartolomé Island was a perfect introduction to everyone that wanted to see something special. Sharks, rays, sea lions and even penguins, graciously swam among some of our guests. We could have spent the entire day on this beach, but there is clearly a lot more out there and we want to see it.

We were just about to arrive at Santiago Island, our second destination of the day, when a group of over a hundred dolphins caught our attention. As if our lives depended on it, we ran to the outer decks to better see the graceful jumps and flips that some dolphins were performing. A large group of them were bow riding the ship and we even heard the famous low frequency sounds that they produce for communication loud and clear.
Making sure that everyone got “the dolphin picture” we dropped anchored off the shore of Puerto Egas. It was here where after a second snorkeling outing, we enjoyed the company of dozens of sea lions, marine iguanas and shore birds that frequently visit this beautiful paradise on earth.

Not a bad beginning for our expedition in the Galápagos!
