Española Island

This is our second day in the Galápagos Islands, and we spent the whole day on the same Island in two different visitor sites. We could stay in this place for a week or even more, and let me tell you. There still would not be enough time to enjoy the beauty of this wonderful place.

Española is the oldest geological formation on the archipelago, and it also contains a high percentage of endemism. Being the oldest island, all the wildlife has had more time to evolve into new and unique species.

As soon as we set foot on Punta Suarez, we were greeted by many friendly creatures such as: Española marine iguanas, sea lions, lots of Sally Lightfoot crabs, Española mockingbirds and many others. It was really difficult to start our walk! Along the trail there were even more to enjoy and when the sun got very hot, everybody sat down in front of the cliff to enjoy the amazing blow hole.

Once everyone was on board, we even had time for a quick swim from the National Geographic Polaris. What a lovely morning we had.

By early afternoon everyone was going out for their own activities; some went for deep water snorkelling, some others to the glass bottom boat, a few started heading to the beach for snorkelling lessons, and a lot of our guests even managed to fit in kayaking along the coast.

Later on everyone started arriving at the beach; this place is one of the few locations where you can walk without need of a licensed naturalist guide. This beach is one of the most beautiful; the sand is composed of basically 100% of organic material such as corals, barnacles and shells of different species. It was also full of Galápagos sea lions and all our people; animals and people enjoying the same beach, one species staring, photographing them, while the other species rested, ignoring them.

This magical place is one of the few locations on earth where animals show no fear of people; this paradise is one of the few places on earth were people change the way they see the world.

This is just the end of our second day, and all the people on board are very happy and ready for the next day.

Good night and see you tomorrow morning folks.
