Genovesa Island

The colonies of seabirds, the landscape and the snorkeling sites make Genovesa Island the ultimate paradise to visit in the Galápagos Archipelago. Today we awoke to a heavy rainfall but it didn't last long. By the time we were ready to disembark the rain had stopped. We headed to the shore with a little bit of sunshine, nice light for photographers and everyone who wanted to enjoy the walk along the shore.

In terms of wildlife this island is home to thousands of birds of different types and behaviors and colors. There is a colony of thousands of red-footed boobies, found only on this island. They nest all over the island year-round. During the walk this morning we had the opportunity to see many of them nesting and courting among the mangrove trees. This same habitat is shared with the great frigate birds that also nest by the thousands.

Today we saw many frigate birds. This is just the beginning of the breeding season, soon the trees all around will be heavy with scores of frigate birds. Later in the year there will be baby birds of all types crowding the landscape.

Once we concluded the walk in the morning we returned to the ship, and shortly afterwards we headed to the snorkeling site. Here, we had a fantastic time due to warm water temperatures and an abundance of tropical fish, plus the sun was shining making for the perfect conditions.

Some of our guests decided to enjoy the islands in different way, and it couldn't have been a better day for kayaking! Exploring this place from a kayak is fabulous because you can admire the magnitude of the crater is now the bay of the island and home for thousands and thousands of marine organisms.

It was amazing, just another day in paradise!
