Bartolomé and Rabida Island
In the early hours of the day we landed on Bartolomé Island and started to climb to the top of a high cinder cone. This island offers a great opportunity to observe different geological formations and the way different organisms struggle and adapt to survive here.
As one reaches the top, the view was magnificent. We were able to observe from here some sea birds fishing as well as the lonely spout of a whale that was very far out off the coast, too far away to be identified.
Later on we put on our snorkeling gear and headed to a nearby beach and explored the underwater realm. This morning we got to see several species of fish as well as marine invertebrates such as Panamic cushion sea stars, orange cup coral, and sea sponges. There was also a Galápagos penguin resting on a rock by the coast.
After a short navigation this afternoon we arrived at Rábida Island, and there we had several options for our guests: deep water snorkeling, kayaking, and walking. One of the greatest moments was when a group of blue footed boobies was spotted feeding off the shore. These birds were very well synchronized and were all diving together. They gave us a great show!
Late in the afternoon we returned aboard and shared some memories and experiences from today.
